A Duke University Study Involving Sex Toys Causes Outrage

OUTRAGE!

OUTRAGE!

A Duke University study, in which female student participants are asked to discuss their viewpoints and behavior regarding adult toys and sex, has caused outrage among some. And by “some” I mean one dude, Father Joe Vetter, director of the Duke Catholic Center.

“I think it can give the impression that the university is endorsing behavior that I don’t think the university should endorse,” said Vetter. “I don’t think that’s the intention of the university, but I think it can be perceived that way.”

Someone needs to hurry up and buy this poor, sexually deprived soul one of those fake, latex vaginas. Maybe then he’d realize for there’s nothing wrong with masturbation, except for the sad reality that you can’t do it 24/7. Even if the university was explicitly endorsing masturbation, how can one fight against men and women gratifying their sexual wants and needs in a manner that is, not only private, but safe?

“My understanding is there is a concern on campus about promiscuity,” Vetter said.

“I’m concerned about promiscuity also,” Vetter said. “And to be honest, I don’t have the solution. … My concern is these students are in this developmental phase, and I don’t think it’s a good developmental practice to just tell somebody to just sit around and masturbate. I don’t think that promotes relationships.”

Alright, enough about this tightwad. Let’s get to the juicy stuff!

The study reportedly involves participants filling out a questionnaire about their sexual attitudes and behavior, followed by a one-hour “sex toy party” held at a lab with 7-8 participants.

During the party, participants will be asked to “engage in a sexually explicit conversation” about the devices, will be given the opportunity to purchase adult toys at discount prices, and will receive a gift bag fill with who knows what heavens. Two months later, participants will be asked to fill out another questionnaire.

The purpose of the study, led by Dan Ariely, a professor of behavioral economics at the Fuqua School of Business, has yet been revealed for fear of tainting the results.

Why haven’t I been asked to participate in such a study? Instead I always get lame questionnaires in the mail from Comcast where I vocalize my disdain for their shitty product and customer service.
